Safe amalgam removal

Amalgams are dangerous to our health. How to remove them safely?

Safe removal of amalgam

It is a procedure that is performed safely, following certified protocols. It consists of removing the amalgam present by replacing it with biocompatible compounds that safeguard the affected tooth.

It is painless.

Amalgam

Metal alloy also containing mercury.

Mercury

Very harmful to our bodies and the environment.

Replacement (correct as-is)

Biocompatible ceramics and composites.

What is amalgam?

Amalgam is an alloy of metals that also contains mercury and was used in the past to fill teeth.

About 440 mg of mercury are present in a filling and the alloy oxidizes over time and some particles can be corroded in the saline environment of the mouth. The particles can be absorbed by the mucous membranes of the oral cavity and go directly into the bloodstream, depositing in the organs, causing toxicity.

They can be swallowed and, passing into the stomach and intestines, affect the liver and kidneys for disposal. Some is eliminated through urine and faeces, contaminating the environment.

Mercury Symptoms and Damage

Mercury can cause various diseases and disorders, including serious ones, such as:

  • anaemia;

  • anorexia;

  • colitis;

  • depression;

  • dermatitis;

  • emotional instability;

  • headaches;

  • headaches and migraine;

  • hearing loss;

  • hypertension;

  • lack of concentration;

  • memory deficits;

  • tremors;

  • urinary tract inflammation;

  • kidney damage.

The stages of the pathway

Dental examination and pre-treatment

After the examination and in the presence of damaged or worn amalgam fillings, "chelation" supplements are prescribed, which are necessary to cleanse the body of any harmful substances, capture the residues and expel them. The correct procedure involves:

  • taking the chelating supplements for at least 10 days before removal;

  • drinking at least 2 liters of water daily;

  • avoiding alcohol, chocolate and sweets;

  • eliminating or limiting milk and dairy products;

  • avoiding solanaceae (tomatoes, eggplant, peppers), which are rich in histamine, a reactive substance, during therapy.

1

Mercury isolation

The removed amalgam blocks sucked out of the hood are separated by material type by the suction system. Then they are collected and closed in appropriate containers and disposed of according to legal procedures.

Isolation of amalgams

3

Removal of amalgams

The removal of amalgams must follow a specific procedure that involves working in complete safety, both for the person and the physician. Gowns and headgear are used to protect people, a hood suitable for suctioning the vapors released by the amalgam is activated, and the respiratory tract is protected. The filling to be treated is isolated with rubber dam and thus safely removed.

2

The substitution

Once the amalgam is removed, the filling is reassembled using biocompatible material, restoring the natural function and effect of the tooth.
